So, we're doing the Summer Knitting Olympics and I'm getting really excited. I've had a few people contact me with their projects and I hope more will participate. There will be a prize - I haven't decided what it will be yet, but it will be good! Now I'm having trouble deciding what project I'm going to do. I think I've narrowed it down to doing a lace project of some sort. The tricky thing is picking a project that will not be overwhelming and will be attainable to finish. Not being familiar with lace patterns, I have no idea how long they would take to do. Any suggestions are welcome...
In other news, my mom came to visit while my husband was in Ohio for four days at a drag racing event. Yes, he drag races. On good days, a 1970 Buick station wagon (with the roof rack still on it!). These are not good days, since his motor "blew up", so he took his other Buick out. Don't ask if he won -- it's a sore subject and a long story.
My mom and I had fun, hanging out at the store and going out to eat. We went to a GREAT Indian restaurant on Saturday. Tandoor Palace on the corner of Lark and Madison in Albany. If you like Indian food, GO THERE. It was so yummy.
Yesterday, after the store closed, I went to Saratoga to surprise my friend for her birthday. Her husband arranged for several of her friends to meet at The Grey Gelding for dinner. Also a nice restaurant - and very yummy. I knitted her a pair of fingerless gloves, Fetching from Knitty http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer06/PATTfetching.html with Suri Merino in a really pretty dark pink/reddish color. She really liked them - yay! BUT, I forgot to take a picture of them before I gave them to her so I could post them here. I'm going to ask her to take a picture and send them to me.

I was listening to something about lace just yesterday. It recommended a lace scarf for a 1st time lace project. I don't have any suggestions beyond that. See you Wednesday.
If you plan on watching the olympics, and have never done lace before, don't do it.
I found, during my first lace project, that I had to have absolute attention on the knitting. That was great, because it caused knitting to be a meditative task requiring all my attention. However, it did not lend itself to TV watching.
That said, if you still want to do Lace, I recommend "Mist" by Lisa Dykstra http://www.straw.com/cpy/patterns/scarves/kidm-mist-lace-scarf.html. But don't do it in anything resembling mohair.
I finished it in 2 weeks, as a last minute idea for a gift, so it is definately do-able for a somewhat experienced lace knitter.
Something else to beware with lace...it's addictive.
